Im just wondering if this is a sign that I have it? I just woke up from a very vivid dream that I was drowning, trying to get air. I woke up gasping for air and out of breath...

do the events in my dream somehow try and explain that I have sleep apnea, or at least an occurrence? crazy shit, was scary

no you can have altered physiological states while dreaming. if this happens often and somebody who sleeps with you notices you snore and occassionally stop breathing while you sleep, thats a better indicator

The dream of drowning is a very common theme with this, but as far as I know, sleep apnea is totally harmless - aside from forcing you out of sleep to breathe.

I've had it happen to me occasionally over the years, like maybe 4 times.

I wonder if it was more about fire and smoke given your background about firefighting.

You have to go get a few over night tests done hooked up to machines. My pops has sleep apnea and the insurance got him a cpap machine, he sleeps like a baby now he says.

But yeah whoever said someone else will notice it (if you sleep with a s/o) is true. My mom thought he was dying/choking on his tongue a few times w/o knowing what it was lol.

my dad and several coworkers have it. afaik you dont dream with it because you dont get enough oxygen, so it's a very shallow sleep.
