So heres my story;

Did BJJ/MTKB from about 13-22 with a 2 year gap in between, never really had any major problems in terms of injuries or anything but I will admit I've probably incurred some lifelong damage to my elbows, shoulders and hips due to constant sparring/training/competing. Have had my shoulder pulled out of place and my elbows twisted pretty hardcore throughout the years. When I was 22 I was training for Legacy AM series for a pretty big fight for me and got landed on the wrong way by Andrew Craig (Team Tooke / Jace Pitre MMA) and broke 2 of my ribs, tried going back to training about 8 months later and it just wasn't working so I took up bodybuilding.

Im 25 now btw

I have been lifting ever since and my seriousness about it gets even more elevated pretty much every week that goes by. About 2 months ago I started noticing inner elbow pain on my left arm, at first it wasn't bad and it would fade in/out week to week.

Sunday I was doing back (Lat Pull) with about 210lbs (I'm 5 10 about 185lbs (12%BFish) and got maybe halfway through my 3rd set (Pyramid everything) and felt a DEEP SHARP pain shoot from my inner elbow all the way to my wrist, since then it's been getting pretty bad especially at night or when I try to fully extend my left arm.

Don't really have time to go to a doctor as I am an operations manager for a logistics company and we just took on a HUGE project that's requiring me to work almost 12-14 hours a day Monday-Friday, Mind you I'm a full time parent of a 5 year old so my schedule is pretty stacked.

My question is do any of you guys have any constant pain like the above mentioned and if so what did you guys do (Besides take time off from gym) to help this?

I will eventually go to the DR to get a scan of it but was wondering if this is something that might heal on its own or is it something that will probably need some form of 3rd party help in order to start the repairing process?

Sounds like medial epicondylitis aka golfers elbow.

If you truly want it to heal you will have to take time off from gym. Be weary of exercises that you know cause the elbow pain, either don't do them or use lighter weight and focus on form.

Ibuprofen/advil can help.

Google "golfers elbow" for more information (avoid webmd, wiki, etc)

I get this same elbow pain when squatting sometimes. If I try to take too narrow of a grip.

dont do movements that that you pain while doing (at that area) and be sure to keep good control over any movements that dont cause any pain (a false move could make it worse) if you want to keep training, could be something like a pulled muscle/tendon which will heal on itself, going to a doc wont help unless it was detached completely, in which case you'd most likely notice an unusual bump on your forearm

tldr: best way to ensure recovery=rest, 2nd best is to work around the problem until its gone

e/ golfers elbow is a chronic condition that worsens with use of the articulation, he said it was a sharp pain, so its probably not that

How could that be a reason NOT to go to a doctor?

fair enough,

Though I think we can all agree on three things:

1) Rest
2) Improve form
3) See a doctor if it worsens.

what i meant is within the next 2 weeks its pretty impossible for me to get time as I work in 3 staff manned office. I will have time to go around the 5th of may but until then I thought I'd post something about it.

i would want to do manual testing. is there any swelling/redness/warmth? going through an active range of motion (contracting on your own) do you only feel pain in extension or is it flexion too? if you get someone to hold your arm in one place, at about 90 deg, can you elicit pain by trying to flex or extend against their resistance?

deep sharp pain makes me think pinched nerve, ligament sprain or muscle rupture. if it hasnt swollen or bruised it could be extracapsular ligament. could be a boney avulsion or partial avulsion, there are tons of little muscle bellies that attach in the medial elbow. could be something a lot less serious like an osis.

Thanks everyone for helping me with responses.

No swelling that me or my wife can see & a bit of heat but nothing crazy that would indicate an infection or anything (I've dealt with tons of infections from being a mat rat)

It hurts pretty bad when I flex my bicep or forearm and when I fully extend my arm. The pain was only coming from the pulling motion when lifting but I tried to do chest yesterday and now it hurts when I push as well, I'm assuming thats from me clinching my fist to hold the bar but not sure.
seems like I get most of the pain when I loosen my grip for pushing motions but when I do ANYTHING pull related (Lat pulls, curls, seated rows) I get major pain like a shooting kind of pain that starts from the inner elbow bone (Whatever that is called) and shoots to right before my wrist but only on the inner side of my arm.

any tingling, loss of sensation anywhere? do you feel your grip strength weakened at all? so pain when you flex and extend your elbow, and pain when you flex and extend your wrist? get your wife to help you with this, relax your arm completely and get her to passively flex/extend your elbow, and then your wrist and keep track of the pain. it honestly sounds like a problem with a superficial extrinsic forearm muscle but its hard to tell without being there. get it checked out. oh also try pronation and supination (twist your hand relative to your elbow) and tell me if that hurts at all
