Finally able to squat again (my CNS is ridiculously fucked after 3 sets of squats) but a guy I talk to in my gym all the time let me try his smelly lifting shoes for squats, my stance was much narrower, dropped way past parallel, and everything felt amazing, much better than chucks

Can I just buy a cheap ~$80 pair of oly lifting shoes just for squatting? any big differences between those and say the adipower/romaleus' that everybody talks about?

I might reinvest in better ones once I can squat 405+ but until then a cheap pair would work fine for me right?

You have a few years until you buy an other pair so go with the cheap ones.

I have oly shoes, they are great for as you said, narrower stance and going deeper. Romaleos seem to be the goat

I've dropped them tho, since I low bar wide stance

I just can't squat narrow, my squats look like sumo squats, I hate it.

why'd you swap to low bar wide stance? are you wanting higher #s?

It was a natural progression

Narrow and high bar

To slowly widening as it got heavier high bar

To using oly shoes wide high bar

Then oly shoes wide and low bar

Now flat shoes wide and low bar

Yea for bigger numbers for competition

my progression is pretty backwards hahaha I started wide stance low bar, i'm at high bar wide stance, nothing feels comfortable, but those oly shoes feel sooo nice, not worried about competition #s atm though

I'll check em out! thx Aube!

e/ I see there's a lot of different heel heights, is there a specific I'm looking for? or a way to test how high i want the heel by placing different plates under my heels?

read this. It's not always as simple as that.
