I assuming most of your lifts are pretty weak if you are struggling to hold 225... You could always go the over under and use chalk.
Or perhaps you are using one o those fat bars (dont know the name), I personally hate them, but still grip should not be giving out like that at 225..
Edit : As far as your question go, iv been working out now for one year (my anniversary was the other day!) and im working well into my 400s and use no straps , no belt, i use chalk because it just feels nice (more of a placebo thing I think).
