potential for ebola to spread in US? such a horrible disease to acquire, makes me feel sick just thinking about it. fingers crossed they have great success with the treatments in development, i feel like antibodies are the best bet but i dont really know what alternatives are being examined

maybe a couple cases in the US, but nothing serious. Merica is first world country, very clean (relatively speaking) and lots of measures to prevent any real outbreaks

I'm no where near as intelligent as you cloud, but this is basically my thought process.

im tempted to agree but i also feel that there are some really fking dumb people out there and dumb people unfortunately arent aware when they spread disease.

Honestly if it became massively spread my guess would be because the government allowed it to happen. No conspiracy nonsense ofc, just thinking about the chances.

As for antibodies, I don't think that's the most applicable answer right now.. I think the antibodies haven't shown much efficacy so far (though I don't know what "experimental drug" they used to treat those US citizens a few months back).

they tried antibody therapy on a handful of cases a decade or so ago and 9 of 10 lived, but they administered antibodies late into the therapy so they arent sure if it was a coincidence that those 9 people just happened to be getting better anyway

which indicates the usual studies using antibodies show effectiveness but only for the first couple of days

I just cant understand why they arent closing the borders yet/ are sending tons of reporters in africa

unlikely for two main reasons, it's neither airborne nor waterborne, and it has a rather quick half life to allow a certain population incubation before spotting it too late. it can most likely just wipe out a small village than a whole metropolis, let alone a nation. the WA outbreak was by far the largest and it took out a couple of thousands at most.
