What range of lbs. is a valid window for scale weight fluctuation? I always weigh myself first thing in the morning, fasted, right after the bathroom, however I've gone from 178 to 186 over the past 5 days..

Is this within the realm of error? Or is this jump too high to be an anomaly?

I usually weigh myself every morning and it fluctuates usually 2-3 lbs. So it makes it difficult to judge progress via a scale when you are at a lower weight.

Also if I eat really bad, even for just one day, I often see my weight go up nearly 6-7 lbs from just that one day of eating poorly.

My scale weight was always within like 0.2 to 0.6 lbs. over the past few weeks, and then it was this sudden.

That's why I was confused.

Poliquin says a sudden drop in body weight after a period of stability is indicative of over training.

I really hope he's not referring to the "whoosh" effect that comes with cutting weight in which the body deals with fat loss. If so I have lost even more respect for him.

Best to weigh yourself in the morning.
Don't worry about what you weigh before you go to sleep.
