Typically a sprain is caused from rolling over the outside of the foot. But today I was tackled (more tripped) and a lineman shoulder pad went right into the outside of my ankle (or above slightly in my fibula area). It forced my left ankle to collapse inward towards the center of my body. The pain was terrible like the worst ankle pain I've felt, and it aches, I always feel it, it's not like there's just a certain foot position that causes it, it's always there but it is worse when I play on it of course. I finished the practice limping and it sucked balls, I didn't want to puss out but it's worse than any other ankle injury I've had.

Area of pain: outside of left ankle like everywhere as well as up into my Achilles some and fibula.

Anybody have an idea what it could be? Coach probably didn't want me to get it checked out because they need me as quarterback but this pain sucks and idk if I should practice on it tomorrow but I'll probably have to.

you can sprain the medial side too its just very uncommon because the ligament there is so much thicker and stronger. is it swelling and tender? can you stand on the injured foot (one legged) without falling or feeling very unstable?

go get it checked out by a sport therapist or doctor

e: could also be an orthopedic injury. another thing you should watch out for is knee pain, you can easily damage mcl/acl/meniscus with a lateral blow like that

by orthopedic i mean it could be a metatarsal fracture (one of the smaller bones in the foot, not the toes), or a metatarsal displacement, etc etc but its most likely ruptured ligament. get it checked, rest till you get cleared by a doc. make sure you explain to him that you received a heavy lateral blow to the ankle, ask him to check ankle and knee out if possible and he will do some manual/diagnostic testing

Estimated price? I literally live next door to a hospital. I'd probably just walk over there myself to see if I can get it checked out.

I don't want to cost my parents money if it's something little but I also don't want to be put off 3 weeks of football for something little. Do you have to give your coach the doctors note if he writes one? I'd prefer my coach not know in general that I went to the doctor because we have a team doctor but he only comes once every couple of weeks to check out any injuries people might have lol.
