by not activating them, have you ever seen a dive bomber that bounces out of the hole?
I'm not saying you will not use your glutes 100%, but you will be using them minimal which will just make you more quad dominant and your body will be use to just using quads rather then glutes.
same concept could be used in bench, if you have a huge bounce off the chest an are a narrow bencher it would be tricep dominant rather than the pecs.
