Hybrid Javazon Guide (Poison/Lightning)
by vonhizzle

Making a guide in 2020 is pretty stupid I know but I have seen people ask about this type of zon fairly often and there isn't a guide like this yet (at least not in the stickies).

Stats
  • Strength - Enough for gear. (75 max)
  • Dexterity - Enough for weapon. (65 max)
  • Vitality - Everything.
  • Energy - None.

Although you may find yourself low on mana try to avoid adding points to energy. Zons get 3 life per point of vitality but only 1.5 mana per point of energy so you will be better off getting mana from gear.

Skills

Javelin and Spear
  • 20 Poison Javelin (synergy)
  • 20 Plague Javelin
  • 20 Lightning Fury
  • 20 Charged Strike
  • 1 Jab (prereq)
  • 1 Power Strike (prereq)
  • 1 Lightning Bolt (prereq)

Lightning Fury is great at clearing out large mobs very quickly. However, lightning immunes are a problem and it tends to leave stragglers behind. Plague Javelin takes care of lightning immunes nicely. It also works well with Lightning Fury, often finishing off stragglers allowing you to move on to the next pack. Anything still alive can be cleaned up with Charged Strike which is also a great boss killer.

Passive and Magic
  • 1 Inner Sight (prereq)
  • 1 Slow Missiles
  • 1 Decoy
  • 1 Valkyrie
  • 1 Dodge
  • 1 Avoid
  • 1 Evade
  • 1 Critical Strike (prereq)
  • 1 Penetrate (prereq)
  • 1+ Pierce (extra points here)

Valkyrie, Decoy, Slow Missiles and dodges will keep your zon safe even with low resists. Pierce is Lightning Fury's best friend but points are scarce so only add extras here once everything else is done. This build will get ~80% pierce by level 90, at which point I would consider it done.

Bow and Crossbow

  • None

This is not a bowa.

Items

There are two setups that I recommend. One for maximum damage and the other for maximum survivability. The damage setup uses Sigon's and achieves +6 skills and 60 ias (10 frame throw / 8 frame poke). The survivability setup uses Death's and gets +5 skills and 50 ias (11 frame throw / 8 frame poke).

Weapon

  • Throwing Spear - 80 stack size and purchasable in hell difficulty.
  • Javelin - 60 stack size and no stat requirements.

You really have 2 options here. Since this is a pvm build I recommend the Throwing Spear. You won't miss the 90 life that you lose by getting to 65 dex. For that investment you gain larger stack size and the ability to easily purchase more from vendors.
If you decide to use Javelins a good trick is to keep the extra stacks in your horadric cube. When your current stack is close to running out you will get a notification and you can swap them for a fresh stack. It is quite the hassle however.

Shield

  • Sigon's Shield - +1 skill and 30 ias when combined with Sigon's Gloves
  • Rare Low Strength Req Shield - 30/20 @ Resistances Bone/Defender/Spiked all work fine because we will be using Twitchthroe armor.
  • The Ward - Resists are the only real useful thing here but it does have a lot of them and its cheap.

Use Sigon's for max damage or rare shield for more survivability. Use ward if you are poor.

Armor

  • Twitchthroe - 20 ias and the block is nice as well.

Some people use rare armor to get more resistances but you lose 1 frame off your poke speed with only 30 ias. Shield selection also becomes harder without the increased ctb from Twitch.

Helmet

  • Tarn - +skills are paramount to this build.

Again some people may use rare helm for resistances but the +1 skill really helps here. Every +1 skill is worth over 1500 damage on your Plague Javelin.

Belt

  • Goldwrap - 10 ias to hit the last throw breakpoint
  • Death's Sash - Cannot be frozen and 30 ias when combined with Death's Gloves

Gloves

  • Sigon's Gloves - 10 strength and 30 ias when combined with Sigon's Shield
  • Death's Gloves - 30 ias when combined with Death's Sash

Boots

  • Rare Boots - 30 frw 30+ cold/lightning/fire resistance. Half freeze duration is a nice add if you don't use Death's Sash.

This is one of the main sources of resistances and possibly the most expensive item for this build.

Amulet

  • Rare Amulet - +2 Amazon skills @ resistances. Life/Mana/Stats/HFD are good adds.

Rings

  • Stone of Jordan - This is the only option. +skills and mana are perfect for our build.

Tips

Always cast your decoy ahead of you when you expect monsters. The decoy draws fire away from you and groups the monsters up for efficient killing.
Slow Missiles is effective not only vs Oblivion Knights but also vs Venom Lords inferno and Storm Casters mana drain thing.
Be careful when recasting Valkyrie. It has a long cool down and you won't be able to throw any Plague Javelins until it is over.

nice one, played similar last ladder.
Sadly 8 player games render her pretty useless without lower resist curse or conv ( no psn dmg increase :( ). -As it should be in my opinion, just din/blizz destroy that approach.

I wouldn't say useless :D

Only 5 person game but it does well in 8 too. I'll try to record one if I ever see a full game.
How many +skills did your ladder zon have? With Sigon's setup and battle command this character gets 15k plague javelin. Take away Sigon's, Tarn, and battle command and it is down to 10k. As you can see 15k plague 1 shots vizier (unless he is stoneskin and albeit a slow 1 shot) and lfury destroys seis seal.

Thanks man. I really just copied the layout Zodijackyl used in his hammerdin guide though. I might make an es/fw pvp sorc guide since there is only 1 other person I know who has/had one on classic.

yeah useless is too harsh, but soloplaying 8ppl cs gets a little painful

I mainly wanted to play 8 players public taxi cs.

The Skillbuild was pretty much the same, i thought about skipping valk and dodge skills as a whole and only using decoy with higher Lightning dmg, but i never tryed it.

With this in mind i tryed 3 setups:

1) First setup was basically the one you are using. The resists were pain in the ass at unsafe taxi tps. On top of already low res, i had no access to socketed sigon shield/uniques at ladder.

2) My second setup tryed maximize the dmg output and survivability while sacrificing IAS. So i used 10 ias, 2x 2x 2x cr/fr/lr gloves for 2.5 attacks/second. High resist belt, high resist frw boots with hfd, +2 high resist amulett. Like that i got to max FR and 6x lr and +7 skills without bc (Silk, Sojs, Amu, Tarn, Sigons).
Obviously the downside of this build was FRW and no cnbf. I always had some thawing pots with me

3) This was my main feel good public cs build: Irathas gloves, helmet, belt for 20 frw, 20 ias (sadly not the 26 ias breakpoint) and 30 "prism". +2 Prism stack fr amulett, 30/20 3x prism boneshield, high res boots, hawkmail and sojs.

The best combination in full games was a CE Nec with lower resist. Fury produced quick bodies for CE and lower res was amazing for poison. With existing tp, the two of us could easily clear cs in reasonable time.

This hybrid ama is probably the most efficient pvm amazon, sadly it still can't keep up with top PvM builds of the other 4 classes.

If you're really hardcore: Try Wizendraw cold build with manual weaponswitch to psnjavelin for killing CI, it's not even bad^^

Good guide I think only a 99 could max out full power?

If you mean max lightning damage that would take like level 130.

@bahgeraut Yea I am sitting at 20 @ res with diamond sigon so I can see how taxi would be tough. I also considered skipping Valk and the dodges but 4 skill points isn't a big deal. I think the dodges are nice to have with res as low as they are. Valk is nice to have as well even though decoy is more vital in my mind.

I did want to make a frozen arrow zon. Probably do immolation for immune like guigeeks guide though. Swapping bow to jav sounds more tedious than keeping normal javelins in the cube. I was actually trying to get a +2 dbl bow for it but maybe wizendraw is better?
