Type the following into your command line to bring up DOS promt:

cmd

Then type

netstat

Then take you whatever URL or IP you can find something along the lines 215.gateway-battle.net or w/e. Diablo needs to be running of course.
Type that in any IP location search (like www.ip-adress.com) and it will always be California. (or Nuremberg (Germany) if you logged into Euro Realm)

Signal latency also known as ping or lag, depends on the distance between server and client. It can be viewed in game using the command: /fps
Basically it's (double) the delay between what happens on the server and the time it arrives on your PC.

Blizzard put up servers around the world for WoW and battle.net 2.0 to lower the lag/latency, at the same time they seem to have reduced servers for d2 and old battle.net to the point, when it makes no sense to divide the player base between U.S.East and U.S.West since both servers appear to be located next to each other somewhere on the West Coast. It also means that lag to the U.S. Server from Europe or vice versa, is pretty much intolerable.

I hope somebody is curious enough to try out and confirm that East and West have in fact the same latency, as well as the same location.

When you connect to b.net(east) there will always be 2 IPs, today for me these are

63.240.202.126
63.240.202.31

both of them show up as Irvine (California) U.S. of A.
