Characters:
Michael: A taller, broad chested, but thin, man. Early 20’s. Deep voice. Brown hair. Must be able to perform up to intense physical actions and cry on cue.
Madisen: An average height woman, red hair, blue eyes (important). Around 20 years old. Very beautiful, yet stern and unforgiving.
Robert: Michaels best friend, around 20. There for him when he needs it most. Stockier, short but not too short.
Sophia: Michaels mother, about 40. Similar larger features to Anthony, but dissimilar enough to be her own character. Irrational and overreacts to small things.
Deborah: Average height, friend of Anthony, around 20.
Int. An old style home, around night, winter time in 1953. (Costume design, all characters will enter the front door wearing winter clothes). The room is centered around the outside door which has a view of the outside, but its dark at the time. The door should have a small side table sitting stage right of it with nothing on it besides a sitting phone.
Stage left is decorated with a fire place and nearby a door leading to the rest of the house along with various trinkets and decorations sitting on the mantle of the fireplace and a side table that is set with a doily and a vase with roses inside. Above the mantle of the fireplace is a large portrait of a man that no one knows with a grand, gold frame.
Stage right is centered around a door to the kitchen (which has the implied back door inside the room). Aside the door is another table, exactly the same as the one on stage left, but atop of it is a lamp. Between the door and the corner leading to the center door is a window with curtains closed for the time being.
On the floor stands a kitchen table that is adjacent to the kitchen door on stage right, spiked about 6 feet from the door itself. The specifics of the table don’t matter, but on top of it is a white table cloth that hangs a foot off of each edge of the table, and holds the tableware on top which includes a plate for each chair at the table (at least four). An empty glass for each chair as well, with silverware corresponding and in the middle of the table is a vase that holds a large bouquet of flowers. The table itself should be diamond angled towards downstage to avoid blocking sightlines.
Stage lefts floor is completely empty besides one couch, older, probably from the forties, but still looking of a higher class (almost completely unfitting to everything else in the room. The couch should be facing downstage parallel to the wall on which the fireplace sits, but off center enough to not block the fireplace itself.
Center stage is completely empty, save a rug that doesnt quite fit the theme of the setting, the whole room should look mismatched, but as if someone had desperately tried to decorate the room in a classier manner than they could afford. The lights come up.
Michael walks in dressed in a long, black coat, that hangs down to his mid-shin. He attempts to take the coat off but struggles to get his arm out of it and eventually succeeds in tearing it off of his body and hurls it to the ground at center stage to show he is wearing black slacks, a white button up shirt with the sleeves lazily rolled up and suspenders, with only one strap attached.
Michael: Fuck!
He is audibly sobbing through his struggle, and fumbles for cigarettes and matches in his back pocket. He pulls out the container and uses the stick of his lip to pull a cigarette out and struggles even harder to remove a match from the pack. He succeeds in this as well, after some struggle and lights the match with the strike on the pack, singes the end of the cigarette and stumbles backwards to the wall, slowly sinking down as his sobbing intensifies.
Blackout, during which Michael will stand, pick up his coat and throw it on the couch, lazily, and pace in front of it, no longer crying, but excitedly waiting, practically shaking.
The door opens and in enters Sophia, turning to face the door immediately, as she takes off her coat, hat, and gloves.
Boring. "An old style home, around night, winter time in 1953" What sort of desc is that? Aren't you supposed to be hooking your audience? Or is this description just to tell people how to set it up?
