Is there anyone in here that follows finance at all? I need a fairly specific trend that I can find alot of information on and write 2-3 pages on. I was told that using the topics "financial regulations on banks" and "Fintech startups" are way to vague to be a actual trend.

Well are you supposed to be specific to financial institutions and organizations internal trends? or what exactly? Approach matters too if you are discussing this from a policy/legal perspective, or a speculators actions.

Anything financial related, it can be corporate trends, banking, regulation. As long as its an actual trend in finance that is popular right now and specific it would work. It is just fairly difficult to find an actual trend that is worth while in finance.

Alright so if its open ended, I think you can just pick apart any old topic and find some light material to back it up. Market trends have hints and clues just about everywhere, that or you can write it up as though it is.

Something as simple as Zika's (Or CDC announcement thereof) effects on tourism.

If you need to stick closer to financial practices and regulations its as simple as following the institutions involved. Any move in regulation or any elected response is usually well publicized if it is in fact a "trend". It is when the course of something is sustained and commonplace that it becomes a trend.

Write about how raising minimum wage doesn't actually help at all because when minimum goes up the price of everything else also goes up because the people doing minimum wage jobs are making more money but the company's don't want to lose profits.

TBH, you could write a decent amount about the financial effects of Pokémon Go on the service and hospitality industry.

Thats what im talking about, although I have just submitted the idea of the dodd-frank act causing the next major financial crisis. If that gets shot back I will most definitely approach this.

I think this is more a consequence of the delayed effect of real inflation brought on by a mix of monetary policy and market desired escalation. ( Price goes up due to inflation and the workers, particularly minimum wage earners, are wanting that raise in response.) Either way still a valid point and topic. The margin of what is bolded is a topic in itself as it is a metric which highlights how well either camp (wage earner or organization) is responding to shifts.

at 2-3 pages I'd find it hard to believe your original idea will be shot down. Seems like a casual assignment to me.

The price of "everything" doesn't go up though. And the price increase as a result of minimum wage increase wouldn't be near proportional to the wage increase since labor is a small part of even a fast food restaurant's expenses.
