In 1 year the cat will be full-grown and acting like an adult. Give it as much attention as you can the first year and always be gentle. Kittens can become traumatized at a young age and have issues for the rest of their lives. Think of it like raising a human child. Be very loving and supportive and they will grow up to be wonderful cats.

This is where u have to be really cautious. When cats are disciplined with scare tactics and loud noises it can permanently give them trust issues and make them skittish and have a distant un-loving demeanor as adults.

Try not to blame the kitten for being a kitten. It's your responsibility to set your home up so that it is cat ready. If the cat gets into something you didn't want him to, consider what you can change in the room to prevent it from happening again. Cats need entertainment and they like to be up on high elevations so they need something for these things (like a "cat tree" and various toys). Otherwise they will walk on your tables and counter-tops and play with things you dont want them to - this isn't their fault, they are just doing what cats like to do. He would be climbing trees outside if he could. I think a lot of issues people run into with cats is people are unwilling to provide for the cats needs and it results in a bad relationship.

If your cat cant go outside, at least allow him the privilege to sit directly at the window pane. If you have curtains or blinds, this is something you're going to have to figure out and adapt.

To discipline use a different tone of voice and be consistent with that tone of voice every time. Do not yell. Talk in a scorning tone. The cat will quickly learn and remember that tone of your voice means to it has done something bad. If the cat is someplace its not supposed to be, move the cat and use the scorning tone. Try to avoid scaring it. Do not hit it and don't be rough with it when disciplining.

I believe if you do these things, you will be rewarded with a cat that respects you and adores you. They live 20 years so this is important!
