I was wondering if anyone here has had any experience with renovation? We're taking out a mortgage to buy a home off a family member.

The house is worth around 75k, but they are selling it to us for 20k.

So, we were debating on taking 40-50k out to redo some of the house.

I want to do everything I can by myself to save money.. but I'm sure plumbing/carpet laying is difficult, so I may need to hire a professional.

The house was made in 1892, but has had some minor inadequate adjustments made. Also, There was animals living inside the home... so all the carpet will be torn away and replaced.

The outside looks great, it even has a metal roof!

I'm wanting to buy upgrades in the mid-range price area, not the best but certainly not the cheapest.

My main focus as of now:

- Living Room
- Kitchen
- Upstairs Bathroom (needs plumbing work)
- Master Bedroom/Nursery
- Guest Bedroom
- Computer Room

I have many ideas for all these areas but I'd like to see what others suggest once viewing a few pictures.

If this thread has any resourcefulness I'll be posting before/after pictures and updating my progress/ideas.

Feel free to help me price shop!

Here's some pics:

I'll post more pics tomorrow.

I have a lot of renovation experience, first thing i would do would be to remove all the carpet and tile all the non living areas, then rebuild the kitchen :D

Yea tomorrow me and my brothers will be tearing up all the carpet, as well as moving all the old furniture out - it was left in the house to do with as we please. Some of those sofas are over 100 years old.

Do not toss the furniture, some of it may be valuable.

Yeah, we're going to go through it all - I'll be renting a storage unit to place it all in.
