We trust them with all our money, yet they chain their pens to the desks...

people do seem to walk away with pens with or without the intent of doing so... its more so to just have a pen around for the next customer.

If you deposit £100 and after 6 months you go to the bank, you can withdraw your £100 back again. (bank didnt steal your money)
If a the bank doesnt chain pens, and someone uses one of them, after 5 minutes the bank lost its pen. (people steal pens)

6 months + didnt steal your money = trusted
5 minutes + stole a pen = not trusted

trusted = no chain
not trusted = chain

i don't use there pens anyways!

most countries in the west have these.
