My father is a college professor, and he has spoken about the "light bulb moments" that make him love his job (even though it pays less than his prior business). There's something about seeing that recognition and understanding happen, in real time, that is super satisfying. I've started looking for those moments in my own life.
For example, during the beginning of an intimate encounter one evening, it hit me all at once that my wife is more receptive to sex when the dishes are done. I don't look at dishes the same anymore, although I still put them off as long as possible when she and I are apart.
Also recent: guy was rude to me online. I was confused, because I had made a minor error in our back-and-forth communication, but nothing worthy of the response I got. Then I saw in his profile that he was from New Jersey. Now I get it.
