I would probably have made up some shit on the internet based on never having been in a crisis anywhere near that horrifying and used it to comfort myself into thinking I'd be safe if something equally horrifying happened to me.

Tbh, if there was any opportunity to out maneuver the gunman, id do that while trying to find anything that could be used as a weapon. If not, id find an alternate way out with as many people I could get attention from to come with

Well first instinct would be to take cover. After I can scan the area and understand what's actually happening, then I'd be immediately planning how to take him down or save as many as I can
