Actually meat eaters mostly consume factory farmed animals who wouldn't have existed if the factory farm system wasn't around, so you aren't saving a bunch of animal lives by eating chickens, pigs, cows, etc. You are perpetuating the suffering of these animals by eating meat.

In addition to that, human beings have the intellectual capacity to rise above our natural instincts, animals generally do not. Some may reason that eating animals is morally wrong, while realizing animals are killing other animals every second of every day.
