i know it's so sad. i can't believe that public school ever failed me!!! boo hoo
well actually 6/2(1+3) = 12
the / turns 6/2 into a fraction

Who in the fuck fails public school? I come to class about half the time and I'm easily passing rofl. American public schools, especially ones here in Florida, are notoriously bad at not teaching shit.

The answer is 9. Use the order of operations

Now we do multiplication and division from left to right to get

Remember that multiplication and division happen at the same times in the order of operations

The same is true of addition and subtraction.

If you interpret it as the equation states it, it's 1.

1+2 = 3
2*3 = 6
6/6 = 1

But I know what you mean.

/e Well, interpreting it using a shitty teaching of PEMDAS anyway.

This is what my roommate confirmed. He was agreeing with me with PEDMAS, because we were both taught this. It seems that PEDMAS is not exactly how it should be used. Again, multiplication and divison are equal to each other are addition and subtraction, but division and subtraction are after multiplication and division.

I /thread'd this thread back on post #795.

PEMDAS

Solve for the parentheses. (1+2) = 3. Right? "Yes."
Solve for the exponents. No exponents, so no solving to be done. Right? "Yes."
Solve for the multiplication or division, going from left to right. 6÷2*3 = 9. Right? "I DON'T FUCKING KNOW HELP!!"

I was arguing because I was taught to literally do PEMDAS and not multiplication and division are equal to each other like subtraction and addition are equal to each other.
