This one, except I beat this game over the winter/spring since this post, since I wanted to put it behind me. Ended up with like lvl 30 or so characters which in that game is pretty darn high, like having 95+ in d2

Wizardry 6 Bane of the Cosmic forge. This was my fav game as a kid, and other then the graphics it still holds up to this day. This is a hard and challenging game that takes hundreds of hours to beat, I've never managed to beat this game.
Then I'd play 7 and use the allowed char import / items from 6.
Also the chars in these screenies suck ^_^ one needs to reroll from the different caster classes back and forth to increase the spell selections and spell points and then go to a ninja so the whole party can "hide" and get 100% Kirijutsu for them crits and the lowest AC without needing to buy fancy armors.

You haven't played hard until you've busted out wizardry 6. Heck it takes a few hours just to roll your party characters before you even start playing. It's an epic dungeon crawler with unheard of char, class and race diversity that hasn't existed since that franchise came out. I've been playing it for almost 25 years and have yet to beat it. I've got an epic party now that can do it, working on that now too. Ive min maxed the shit out of my characters. It takes hundreds of hours to beat even if you know what you are doing. Steam has it for 5 bucks now. It came out in an age where beating the game was an accomplishment, no handholding and prepare to get out the graph paper to map it out. ( walkthroughs exist now and maps). YouTube or Google it. It's super fun don't be put off by the dated graphics, the content and story holds its own.
I still d2 often, though the character diversity of lod is what I need.
I never played everquest but ive seen it over the years, it looks fun.
Also played wiz 8 a bit, but 6 is the gem.
Of the older games, daggerfall and all its quirks was a fun one too, one of the first massive 3d environment type games where you can explore somewhat separately from a central story line. ive pretty much played everything from ataria, nes to current gen pc games. I'm really liking where VR is going these days, that's going to be the future of gaming and entertainment, and industry is just starting refine this.
