no counter argument ?

No need. You'll grow up one day, or just won't reproduce. Either is fine.

I always do my $5500 into a Roth IRA for sure. If the government wants to let me have tax haven growth, I won't turn it down. Then I put 15% of my pay into a Roth 401k. You can put up to $17k into a ROTH 401k, which will make your paychecks suck because it's all post-tax dollars, but the money and growth is entirely yours. People don't realize that when they retire and have a fat stack of $1,000,000 that's more like, $700,000.

Yeah I've been maxing out a Trad 401k and I was maxing out a ROTH IRA each year, but I've begun to rotate between a Trad/Roth IRA account for now. I'm not sure I trust that the government isn't going to pull some bullshit down the road to raise "revenue" by taking your ROTH withdrawals as well, and if that happens then I'm being hit twice.

The food and venue for your wedding cost $17,000. How is that not a pure luxury-driver expense?

That's certainly not cheap, but I'm not sure if it's overly ridiculous..The last wedding that I went to was fairly small (like 70 people?), and they spent probably $4000+ on alcohol alone. Now if you figure in food and have a somewhat large wedding..

What the fuck are you on, nothing he posted really constitutes "making it". Any random single person can throw that kind of money at something if they make a halfway decent income.

I use myself as an example in a lot of my threads to try to show people that normal people using JSP are able to do things that maybe they didn't think they were capable of. I've told my life story on here a million times about how I made a lower-middle class upbringing with 2 non-college educated parents into a pretty successful career. I do that so people can see the reality of it through story rather than just seeing facts and numbers.

...Okay, so he is using himself as an example of how you can have a halfway decent income. That doesn't mean he did so because he had "a lot of advantages". Hell, half the people I work with are high school educated hillbillies raised by uneducated parents, and they're all making 60-70k a year, and many making $100k+. You don't need to be raised by rich white educated parents to get a halfway decent job, you just need to want to make money and be willing to work "hard and uncomfortable" jobs..

$17k is nothing. I spent $19,500 total. That's like $10,000 under the national average.

Think about all those 08s that you could of had rather than getting married

I'm not naive, we didn't register at bed bath and beyond or something stupid. I was registered for gspurs, fletch, slippers, soul shanks, but no one fulfilled my request for brimstone shanks if you're looking to give a wonderful gift.

Eh, I'm not too fearful. The government can't just straight up tax a Roth because then it's double taxed. That'd never fly. I could see them adding a capital gains tax to a portion of Roth gains or something like that, but you'd still make more through a Roth assuming taxes don't go down over the next 30 years lol.

This. 100% this. My parents are fucking awesome, but they weren't loaded. Both high school educated and worked their way to a decent living. Nothing was handed to me. That's half the point of what I post. Stop hiding behind the stupid belief that the only wealthy people in the world were privileged. That's just an excuse you use when you are trying to justify why you're still stuck.

"hard and uncomfortable" jobs don't pay shit anymore. Maybe warehouse worker, but that's really the last bastion in unskilled labor paying a decent wage.

I'm not expecting to make a lot of money. I'm just pointing out that it's ridiculous to say people aren't making a decent living because "they're not willing to work hard and uncomfortable jobs".

I worked hard and uncomfortable jobs, it was definitely not a determining factor in my success.
