The flag itself is just a piece of polyester. No two people can agree on exactly which ideas & values it stands for, and even if they could, desecrating the flag is clearly the expression of contrary ideas which is protected. Banning it would be akin to restricting speech just because those ideas are offensive to our society at present, which I think everyone agrees is dangerous.
