If only people put this much care and effort into something useful.

I've spent just about the same amount of time in this thread as I usually spend on a real math assignment from school...I hate the internet.

Yes, it is. The equation is read as:
(6/2)*(1+2), which obviously equals 9.
It's because people are interpreting it very badly. This isn't a fraction, this is an equation.

You changed the equation. It is not the way you wrote it.

Just read the end of page 65, it's explained there. It's all about how it looks on paper, when you write it in a topic title there is no chance that you can know whether they are seperated or not.

They give different answers because they are different equations. The equation in the title can only be read as (6/2)*(1+2). If you were to interpret it as 6/(2*(1+2)) the answer would be 1, but that's not how you interpret it. The ÷ doesn't mean to turn it into a fraction. As I said above, you read a fraction like this:

(x+y)
------
(a+b)

This is why you solve the denominator and numerator separately before dividing. This is written separately, and therefore there's only one answer(9).

I didn't change it at all, I was inserting parentheses in the proper place to try to explain it better. That's not the actual equation, but that is how you solve for it.

wrong guy..t here is no parenth n the 6/2.. so it reads as 6/2*(1+2)

so .. prarent firth no exponent multiplication is 2*(3)
then divis 6/6.. thank you come again
