- People are scared of hollywood remakes ruining old movies.

- It's a remake of the original and not a sequel (read below)
- It replaces all of the characters with different ones as the first movie in the series.
- Regarding them being women, if anything people would be disgruntled to "why" they're women replacing the old characters instead of them being just women. (
If the original ghostbuster's were retired but still in the movies universe (even just by name) and this was the new team taking over when the city needs ghostbuster's again then it would have been better received.
