For most people, walking on a treadmill at 1.0 incline (helps with shin splints) at a 4.0 speed will lose more fat than doing sprint intervals.
Interval training is for people who plateau frequently because they are already in great shape to begin with.
Make sure you stay in the "fat burning zone" for at least 30 minutes. Initially you are burning glycogen stored in your liver and muscles and you won't start burning fat until all of that is used up.
