That does make sense, yet I do not find it disrespectful.

I do see the hierarchy and it does make sense, yet I don't believe in it. We are all equals when it really comes down to it. We're all sinners. I put everyone on the same level playing field and do not put anyone on a pedestal.

That being said, I also do not idolize any one person.

What a gay post

I call my parents "mom" and "dad" and my boyfriend I call "hun" I rarely use his first name. My cat on the other hand has a gazillion names but I mostly call him "Consky" (pronounced con-skee). It's a variation of Connor that I made up lol.

I call my mother mom and my father dad. Just how I've always known them at this point.

On a first name basis with them both, no such attachment to call them by their titles.

Mother and father are elders to us. It is their job as successful parents to be our teachers in the ways of life so that we, as their offspring succeed.
For that reason, though we are all indeed peers, I like the idea of mom and dad or whatever it is you say. It helps to setup an interesting teacher-pupil relationship. They are our parents, male teacher and female teacher (biologically speaking) and each one carries valuable lessons in femininity and masculinity.
At the same time however, I don't see that it is 100% necessary.

I do.

I am a first name basis kind of person, extending to EVERYBODY. If you disagree with calling your parents and grandparents by their first name, I'd like to know why we call them by that title in the first place and not by their real names.

Why is this the case?

It's an honorific. My parents can be "David & Kathy" to everybody else in the world, but to me, they're much more special. To me, failure to use an honorific with someone who deserves it lessens me.
