1.00 for a hammer and 0.10 for a nail

That's 1.10.....

But then the hammer doesn't cost $1 more than the nail.

Are we supposed to include tax here or what???

Hammer is only 90 cents more than the nail with your numbers. So it's the wrong answer.

5 + 1.05 = 1.10 and is the correct answer

A hammer and a nail cost $1.10, and the hammer costs one dollar more than the nail. How much does the nail cost?

Can you get it right?

sorry bud, but you asked how much the NAIL costs by itself

if the hammer is $1 more than the nail, and both are $1.10, the nail is 10 cents.

If a nail cost 10 cents
And the hammer cost 1 dollar more
Then the hammer cost 1.10
and the nail cost 10 cents
Equalling 1.20

the hammer costs 1 dollar more than the nail, a dollar more than 10 cents is 1.10. but the hammer costs a dollar more than the nail.

so if the nail costs 10 cents, the hammer costs one dollar more than the nail which is 1.10 just for the hammer cause the hammer costs 1 dollar more than the nail

so if the hammer costs 1 dollar more than the nail which is 1.10 , the nail costs 10 cents

so if you add 10 cents to the cost of the hammer, it adds to 1.20

so being the nail costs 5 cents, and a hammer is a dollar more than the nail, the hammer costs 1.05 plus you have to add a nail which is 5 cents and if you add the hammer and the nail at this price it adds to 1.10 total
