My father is from Denmark my mother is from Norway, spoke Danish with my father, in kindergarten, with friends and so on.
Spoke Norwegian with my mother, often when we went on holiday in Norway we drove through Sweden that how i learn Swedish.
I taught myself how to speak German while i watched sesame street the German version, and i learn English at school.
I did not studied 5 languages, Danish and Norwegian is my first language. Swedish and German is just something i picked up, English i had to learn
English is not the most superior language, you will still get further with French and German in many parts of the world.
Of course I've mostly be in European countries, have also been to South Africa, Colombia, Marokko, Tunisia, Turkey, Thailand, and Greenland.
Greenland doesn't really count since it's part of Denmark ^_^
saying english is superior was a joke hence the but seriously part after but in all honesty it really is if i were to be a foreigner outside of the western world speaking and was given the ability to be fluent in french german or english id choose english and im sure most people feel that way as well.
and thats cool you traveled but you made it seem like in order to understand and experience a culture you have to be fluent in their tongue in which case you knowing 5 languages 4 of which are all neighboring countries, 3 being Scandinavian so cultures are similar, and all just being european. only one which taps into many other cultures is english so yeah honestly its the superior one.
