but i don't understand how we came to the conclusion that space is what is created...

first of all, isn't space a vacuum? if its void of matter how can it be created?

i feel like there may be some sort of effect, some law we don't understand that makes every observable, and possible all matter, move apart from each other uniformly. this doesn't mean they are the center though. I still feel that it is an assumption based on nothing much but our current closemindedness to the vastness of space and the possibilities.

Stephen Hawking works with a lot of theoretical concepts. His entire carers is based on theoretical physics. He thinks in these terms (he also thinks hes the smartest guy on the planet). He has a lot of ideas that are plausible but often fall short of being factually sound. There is many astrophysicists and cosmologists that disagree with him about many things.
