Well, he's out there interacting with the rest of the world just fine and able to not just get through the day, but thrive and win difficult competitions. How is that not an inspiration? Being deaf adds a whole lot of difficulty to just trying to get through the day, in large part because there are a whole lot of people who are just flat-out knobs and who don't understand how to maintain reasonable accommodation.

It's hard to explain. I don't think a hearing person like you would ever truly understand how much this means to us. It's just like when Heather Whitestone won the Miss America contest. Bet you never heard of her either.

I can't even get my head around how dumb this analogy is.

It's important. It provides a lot of visibility for deaf people and helps make it obvious that deaf people can do just about anything that anyone else can do, as long as people are decent enough to not get in the way.

It takes some skill to shitpost beyond shitposting
