I could live just fine on 10k a year. All you have to do is start writing lists of all your expenses and categorize it like an accountant. Then work on eliminating those expenses.

For instance, you can use VOIP clients with wifi over any junk smartphone (or computer for the minimalist). My cell phone bill is only about thirteen to fifteen dollars a month but it could be zero if I just didn't give a shit about being able to make phone calls anywhere. Compare that with all the goofballs toting iPhones and comprehensive phone plans, sometimes as much as a hundred dollars a month. It's ridiculous.
