Gardening is fairly easier to do in poor countries as opposed to hunting. But they certainly aren't as Anal(lol) about eating meat. Here it's the media and self image that people bow down to. I wouldn't care what I ate if I was poor, as long as it was edible and will keep me alive.
Eating eat is very heavy on earth. Imagine africa, china, india. disaster happening if they'd start eating meat
Soy is not great for climate either but most of it is going for meat industry anyway
