Depending on how you approach the problem either distributing or doing the parenthesis first, you will get two answers, 9 and 1. You can also right off treat it as 6/2(1+2) and since the 2 is a factor, you can cancel the 6 and 2 and are left with 3/(2+1)=1

without a proof you can not say either is correct so to prove this, we will let the 1, in (1+2) equal x, and set the problem equal to both 1 and 9.
