(6 ÷ 2) * (1 + 2) = 9

was actually curious about this because I wasnt sure if parenthesis includes distributing parenthesis or just finding what's inside the  parenthesis

quick google search and I found:

Depending on how you approach the problem either distributing or doing the parenthesis first, you will get two answers, 9 and 1. You can also right off treat it as 6/2(1+2) and since the 2 is a factor, you can cancel the 6 and 2 and are left with 3/(2+1)=1

without a proof you can not say either is correct so to prove this, we will let the 1, in (1+2) equal x, and set the problem equal to both 1 and 9.

this.

facepalm to everyone that thinks it is 1

use PEMDAS which means parentheses first, then exponents, multiply, divide (which ever comes first b/t multiple and divide), addition, subtraction (also which ever comes first)

so that would make it

6÷2(1+2)
6÷2(3)
3(3)
9
