Never had it happen to me, but I've had clients who had their homes or businesses hit by lightning. Worst I saw was a house that took a direct strike. Fried all the wiring in the walls, so much so that there were black burn marks through the drywall where the electrical conduits ran. Pretty much smoked every electronic device in the house.

Lightning just doesnt shoot out of anything but the sky. It always follows the easiest path until it either blows something or hits a ground and is cancelled out.
