take out a school loan which is distributed by the fed government
lowest interest rate, 0 interest duration of school, 6 month grace period

bank loans from school, I checked some out. I wouldn't take it out unless the school loans don't cover my needs.

If you write to the FAFSA folks and explain that your parents can't/won't help you with expenses, you can usually be registered independent, which will save you a lot.

I mean, this kind of a silly question to ask JSP tho, especially without including your state and what school you're attending. You need to meet with a financial counselor wherever you're going to school that can hook you up with this info. But the short answer is that you're probably going to max out your subsidized Stafford loan and then hopefully cover the rest with unsubsidized, unless you can get your parents to co-sign for a parent loan.

Also, if you're getting no help, you should definitely consider taking two years of community college and then transferring to a four year - you'll almost certainly get into a better school than you could have on your merits straight out of HS, and you can pretty much do it with zero loans.

Illinois state university. Is it legal to change my fasfa to an independent student?

I was under the information that you cannot file as independent unless you are married or over 24 years old.

e: or a graduate student.
