Interestingly enough I've done some research and exercise isn't a way to lose weight. There's evidence that if you increase your calorie expenditure from exercise (which only makes up about 30% of your total calories) your basal metabolism will slow down to compensate keeping your overall calorie burning roughly constant over the long term.
