There was no sort of logical breakthrough that you are thinking of. I think my logic of that time is that it makes sense for the Earth to be younger than people think it is, however, I don't think I claimed it to be true and just stated it philosophically.
I also seemed to relate it to the possibility that carbon dating is a bit off, but I don't really have any thoughts on this now, as I don't even know how carbon dating works to an exact point. I think what I was thinking at the time is something along this line "We haven't observed the decay of carbon over a logn period of time as we've just discovered how to date it for a few decades.... It is possible that carbon decays at a faster or slower rate than we predict due to lower or higher quantities and through this we have a misconception as tot he age of the Earth."
