Well, Obama has been shrinking the deficit fairly nicely and Hilary is married to the last dude who balanced the budget, so I'm really not that worried about the fact that we owe a lot of money on paper. Not exactly a metric that matters to me as greatness is concerned, in either way.

Besides, if debt is what you care about, you should check out Trump's tax plan, which would absolutely skyrocket the debt.

That tension is a result of finally respecting people of color and giving people a voice and actually addressing and fixing the inequality in our society. You can't rip off the band aid without some pain, alas. But we're finally addressing systematic racism and bigotry in ways that we never have, and it's fantastic. Sure, it's a difficult process, but most things worth doing are.
