I spent 4 years getting an English major. English majors do teaching, or law. I spent an additional year gaining work experience, and an additional year transitioning into a program. I spent 6 months in the program, and decided it wasn't for me.

Now I need to go spend another 2 years catching up on accounting (more school), which is what I actually want to do.

So much life getting spent away.

Meanwhile highschool dropouts easily net 6 figures doing what they love

Honestly, even if you end up in a field where it doesn't help at all, it's still a lot of help just making you a generally more well rounded person and yadda yadda.

I'm in the same boat actually and had planned to become a teacher before I realized that there was no way I wanted to be a teacher ever. It's still pretty great, and most folks don't work in the same field as their degree anyway. Doesn't mean that it doesn't help tho, and can really give you an edge.

sucking times make you appreciate the non sucking times
if you learn from sucking times, and make the more difficult decisions in future than
total = less sucking times than non sucking times
