It's all culture dependent. The more you try to fit into the accepted culture... typically you will look more attractive to people.
Obviously this is not always the case, but happens to be why many people conform to social norms (this obviously includes personal hygiene as well), some even get haircuts
that they personally might not like, but it "looks good" again a form of acceptance. Good luk
