Not really. If you burn down a church, you're destroying someone's property (unless it's your own church). And people might be inside it, people from the fire department will have to come out and try to extinguish the fire etc. It's not the same at all.

Legally it should definitely be protected.
banning it goes against the core values of liberty the (US) country was founded on.

tactically i have mixed feelings, and depends on the motive and flag involved.

It must suck to get offended by everything. People can't even destroy a piece of fabric they own because someone in china printed it a certain way.
