I agree 100%. People are fucking retarded with money.

All my food is cooked at home. I walk to school and work. People "don't have time to stay in shape". Well if you walk three or four miles every day you will be in shape, and now you don't need a car anymore. Last year I lived on about eight thousand dollars. Money sense is arguably the biggest life skill you can't teach people.

I'm all for preparing and eating real, fresh food, but it certainly isn't cheaper than typical microwave food.

Of course, if you try your hardest to make it cheaper, you can, but if I go to the store to actually buy food to make a dinner, it will still be quite costly.

10 lbs of potatoes 5$

454g in a pound, 200g servings

454 x 10 = 4540 / 200 = 22.7 round to 23

5 / 23 = 22 cents a serving

Potatoes aren't expensive. They're filling, and can be eaten alone
Or with anything you can think of

Fresh food is way cheaper than the shit you find in vending machines. I could make a solid meal for two or three dollars, or I could go to a vending machine and get complete shit for the same price.

i learned the opposite lesson. look at both your lifestyles; one of you is stingy, building a savings account; the other is having fun every night but slowly going into debt. having a bit of debt on your credit cards / school loans is not necessarily a bad thing, especially if you plan on making decent money in the future. deliberately going into controlled debt during your college years is a good strategy.

i was like you, and i regret it. i went to a college because it was free and lived at home to save money, but got 90-150 minute commutes each way. in retrospect, i'd much rather go to a different college and live on campus. i think it would have changed my life a lot for the better.

my college schooling was paid for. I paid for all other expenses... i still wish i would have done more, like going out to eat more often but w/e. I still went out to the bars or house parties every weekend.

What would have benefited me more was to not get so drunk all the time

It astounds me how stupid some people are financially .... what do I mean by this?

I got into a heated debate with some random a week ago (not on this site) about how he made 100k a year and saying how his life was so shitty because he couldn't make ends meat for being so poor( in New York) as he put it.

First off, don't get me wrong- New York is very costly as is any major city similar to it. Cost of living is something I absolutely take into account writing this thread, but for the love of god lets break this down.

1.) The biggest point that you must take from reading this is that being poor or not being poor is all dependent on the lifestyle that you want to live.
2.) Do you know that alot of people in the world live on less than 1$ a day?
3.) There are things called needs and wants, I asked this guy to give me his budget and everything that he spent money on for an entire year and I literally shredded him on his spending habits.
4.) A massive amount of his money was spent on designer clothes and going out to eat at fancy restaurants with females, and not to mention other "adult" entertainment.
5.) After we went back and forth, he agreed that 50% of his spending habits could be reduced to either savings, or paying off his expensive house-- which I still think was overkill, but a home is a good investment if another 2008 doesn't happen.

Some other things to think about-

Ramen noodles are like what- 28 cents at your local grocery store? So if you really wanted to you could eat for an entire month for like under 15$ Now granted it might not be pleasant to eat those for an entire month, but if you absolutely had to- then you could eat for under 15$ for a month time frame. I am just giving an example of a very cheap way to eat food. There are plenty of other cheap items you could buy- canned food, boxed microwaveable dinners etc etc. Going out to eat at a fancy place then having to give a tip not to look like a cheap-ass is really just pissing your money away imo...

Do you really need to buy name brand things? Remember there is no difference in those 10$ sun glasses compared to the 200$ designer ones-- except the name... they both block part of the sun , so are you just wanting to impress someone if they even see your name brand things?

That Rolex watch that was 15 grand tells time the same as a 20$ Casio at your local store...

That Ferrari that costs 500 grand gets you from point A to point B the same as a 10 grand fuel efficient whatever-car.

Any-who, the next time you think you cant make it on your budget , realize that some people in this world get by with literally a skeleton of a skeleton of the amount of money that you or someone like you make. Not saying that these people like barely getting by, but you would be surprised what the difference is between needs and wants in this world.

Cool story bro

Go eat ramen for a month and work a working class job

I'd rather spend a bit more money and eat good than to eat bland ramen noodles for a month straight to save a couple extra dollars.
Cook your own food, it's not that hard.
