Good read! If you put Saturn in water it would float, wow. :o

Fact: The light hitting the earth right now is 30 thousand years old

Jeez...

I love watching the science channel too. How the Universe Works, Stephen Hawking specials, Through the Wormhole, and so on.

But to blow your mind one step further.

In the center of every galaxy is a Supermassive Black Hole.

This particular picture is of a Quasar [Quasi-Stellar Radio Sources]. Their luminosity can be 100 times greater than that of the Milky Way. They are the compact region of a supermassive black hole and are formed by the rapid acceleration of particles as the descend towards the singularity of the black hole. The particle stream or jet is caused by the friction of such particles rubbing together at extreme velocity.

Here is a Magnetar.

A magnetar is a type of neutron star with an extremely powerful magnetic field. The magnetic field decay powers the emission of high-energy electromagnetic radiation, particularly X-rays and gamma rays. The density of the interior of a magnetar is such that a thimble full of its substance would have a mass of over 100 million tons. Magnetars are giant magnets. If a Magnetar was at the distance the Earth is from the moon; good bye credit cards. At that distance, the magnetic strip on the backs of every credit card on Earth is whipped clean. Cut that distance in half and metal objects are lifted off the Earth. If a Rogue Magnetar was to come within 600 miles of Earth, the iron would be sucked from our bodies. (Magneto anyone?)

Fun bit of info: The magnetic fields made by a magnetar are about 1,000 trillion times that of the Earth’s magnetic field and can reach surface temperatures of 18 million degrees Fahrenheit.

This is a Pulsar.

It too is a Neutron Star though in a different fashion. It fires beams of gamma radiation from its poles as it spins violently about on its axis. The record speed is 1122 rotations in one second. (For all we know that could be slow compared to others in the universe.)

Also this is nothing when compared to a GRB - Gamma-Ray Burster and - which is caused by supermassive stars going hypernova or supernova. Yes HYPERNOVA!! More powerful than a supernova and ridiculously more powerful than a star going nova. (normal nova)

A hypernova would instantaneously become the brightest object in the universe and could be seen from one side of the universe to the other. (given enough time for the light to travel obviously.)

Here is a small article regarding the monster sized GBR. It is currently believed that hypernovas collapse to form supermassive black holes.

Enjoy! Don't forget to Google for images!!

Edit: fixed the bad picture link.
Edit2: I forgot to add in what Quasar stand for.

Visit Michio Kaku's website and you can download his lectures and podcasts. http://www.mkaku.org

Fun fact. When Dr. Kaku was fifteen, he built a super-conductor in his parents garage and caused his entire city to black out. Or brown out. Whichever is which.

I haven't been on his site in awhile, too much school, but if you could do me a solid: If you find anything regarding the universe and space, send me a link. Podcast, lecture, etc.

Thanks in advance.
