But definitions don't lie
The Church of Satan is a registered trademark and anyone operating under the label of 'Satanist' who does not believe the philosophy here is operating under a false name. It is no longer a broad term. The rest of your quote is largely correct however. Satanism is termed such for a few reasons.. They have been explained a couple of times in this thread but I'll go over them again.
1) It's taken from the hebrew word 'Satan' which means 'opposer'. Satanists are opposed to religious doctrine.
2) They acknowledge the symbolism of satan as a rebellious figure who questions the majority and the generally accepted ideas of morality.
3) Satan is considered by christians to be the opposite of their god. Satanisms philosophy is often completely antithesis to judeo-christian doctrine.
4) Sensationalism. Theatrics. Simply because it's dramatic and fun.
