I went up to him at lunch today when he was alone, and said 'alright'. He said hows it going mate, followed by sorry for getting angry at the pub bla bla bla, before I could even answer his question.

When he finished talking I said it's cool but why did you react so badly to that, imo it was a big overreaction, to which he said 'i dont know it just annoyed me'. That kinda pissed me off straight away and I said ok but if you overreact or make a threat in future I will be obliged to hit you. Then he said fair enough, and we parted ways. I guess we aren't friends anymore

think you handled it well. like you said, him threatening violence over something so trivial really shows he doesn't respect you. that kind of shit doesn't fly around here, probably doesn't fly around there either. idk why all the americans think it isn't a big deal

I've known this guy at work for like 5 weeks who seemed really nice and a funny character, and after work at the pub there were about 10 of us having a few pints. After we'd been at the pub for a few hours, I came back from getting another drink and saw him bent over a chair listening in to a conversation, and I could see his bare back as his shirt was pulled up a bit.

So as I came over I gave him a little slap on his back and said 'what's up mate?' as a greeting. He then said 'if you do that again ill knock you out'. Then I laughed because I thought he was joking, but his facial expression was serious. So then I said 'wait, are you actually serious?', and he said 'yeah'. I said 'oooook', walked off and kinda forgot about it because I was drunk.

This week at work he sat on his own at lunch when there were seats free next to me, when previously we'd have lunch together. Not sure what to do really, but I personally think he overreacted big time and I don't really feel like apologising or talking to him

Get drunk and fight in a pub in public, so everyone can see you.

It's not appropriate to touch people without their permission or forewarning. Keep your hands to yourself or somebody will knock you out and then you learn the hard way. If you did that to me in a pub, I'd probably unfriend you permanently right then and there. I don't want people around me that do that kind of bullshit. Dro, you were 100% in the in the wrong here. Be thankful that guy gave you a second chance. Hes teaching you a valuable lesson. I hope you're not too proud to see that.

yeah exactly. it was a lack of respect and he didn't really give a reason as to why he did it. if he said he was having a really bad day and snapped, then I would have been really understanding of the apology. but what he said was proper half arsed so I gave him a warning to not do it again in a much more courteous manner than he ever afforded me
