Well, I'm not being a fanboy, I'm just saying that there's actually no character better than Gambit.
Having the abilities of manipulating atoms is definitely #1... He just get so bored so he plays with his enemies by using a Bo staff / Playing cards.

But when you're given the weaknesses of a vampire, you're pretty useless IMO.

Gambit does get pretty powerful in some versions, yeah. New Sun had omega level power.

Still, Marvel has more powerful characters.
