Oh I was thinking about The menu bat with file, menu etc
Does the start menu not open or let you select the shortcuts, or does it just look different to what you use to?

If I left click cortana or the windows button then nothing happens. If I click on the digital clock at the bottom right hand corner, the calendar does not show up.

In order for me to shutdown my computer I need to go to task manager to do it.

AH Gotcha. Try classic shell. Its a free software for windows
It basically makes your start menu look and function like windows 7's. I tried it successfully on both windows 8.1 and windows 10
