I do it at least once a week so much trails here used to bike through them at night but I stopped after a near accident :P

I imagine if the sign is any bit official or cites a legal code then it is in fact illegal or at least safe to assume it is in the short run. (Research to suit).

Private locale here so it's just about the neighborhood's rules. I see people walk about late, usually dog in tow.
