No but he is theorizing and then inferring accuracy based on other theories.

Kinda like RR Tolkiens incredibly detailed Middle-Earth, if it wasn't an obvious story of fantasy written by a novelist we could easily be lead to believe various things within the story are true and use other parts of the story to back it up.

haven't looked up what hawkins said in this instance but i'd wager it'd be related to the way the universe is expanding, the centre is everywhere etc.

Accepted because they are grasping for anything to hold their belief onto. There is little evidence for any of it.
