Good question. Being a D2 botter for years and always using d2jsp for FG I don't know if we should allow botting or not. This would have to be a community decision what do you guys think?

If there's any sort of trading or competition in the game, don't allow it. Some players shouldn't have an advantage because they can leave a bot running 24/7.

I 100% agree and it would not be hard to stop botting at all.

The way the workflow in the game is setup everything is handled server side so hacking and cheating would be very hard let alone easily detectable by an automated system.

Weeell, I don't pretend to be an expert, but I feel fairly confident that someone could find a way to work around that. But that's probably gonna be true no matter what you do to protect against it.

Anything made by humans can be broken by humans.

But not saying botting and hacking won't ever happen or could ever happen, we can make it hard to accomplish and hard to stay undetected.

For example your character has a Health stat. Someone could run cheat engine and change the value and boom you got godmode or any amount of health you want.

If the health stat is running on the server from your character save that is also on the server you don't have access to change this.

Just a basic example same concept diablo 1 vs diablo 2. Diablo 1 your characters are saved on your computer you can edit your character etc. In diablo 2 for battle.net closed they are saved on there servers along with networking for each stat and movement etc so its impossible to edit or change those from your computer.

Absolutely, the more things that are server side and not client side, the less that people can alter/change.

Right, I just thought you meant it was possible to stop it completely, but I must have misunderstood you.

It's good that you're making life harder for people who wanna cheat. I think both d2 and d3 are good examples of how bots can make a game considerably worse.

Encourage players to work as a team. Instead of just standing next to each other both hacking away, make it so you have to actually communicate so people can form connections.

For example you could have 2 switches and different players have press them at the same time to open the door. Or a melee class that doesn't deal fire damage could have an attack that buffs fire damage dealt by the party. So people will actually have to talk about which abilities they will use and feel like they are involved in something.
